John opened the first Raymond James branch in Boulder, Colorado, in 2002, and the first branch in Ventura, California, in 2008.
In addition to being a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, he is licensed in life/health and long-term care insurance and holds security licenses Series 7, 63, 65, 24, 51, and 31. He is a member of the Boulder Estate Planning Council. This association with local professionals, such as CPAs and estate planning attorneys, enhances his ability to help address every financial matter.
John recognizes that financial needs and goals vary from person to person, and therefore works with each client to provide an individual assessment of his or her financial situation. He assesses his clients’ goals and objectives, time horizon and risk tolerance, thereby creating a personalized financial strategy, as opposed to a cookie-cutter plan.
John consistently acts in the best interest of each client, making their interests his top priority. He wants his clients to be sustainable in their financial goals. Accordingly, John spends time educating his clients and keeping them informed as it relates to choices and rationale for moving forward with a specific plan.
John earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California, where he was also a member of the varsity swim team. He is a supporter of the USC swim program and made a major donation to the Uytengsu Aquatics Center at the university. John is a member of the USC Alumni Association and past president of the Colorado chapter. In addition to being one of three representatives for the State of Colorado of the USC Prestigious CORE which promotes the University and its alumni relationships.
John and his wife, Dr. Virginia Scroggins Young, contribute to the Autism Society of Boulder County (ASBC) to help individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families develop a strong, united community by creating opportunities for people to connect, share experiences, and build new relationships.
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Center for Financial Planning, Inc. owns and licenses the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®, and CFP® (with plaque design) in the United States to Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., which authorizes individuals who successfully complete the organization’s initial and ongoing certification requirements to use the certification marks.
